Thus, for your matchup ' if no other schools can be found on the same longitude- you can consider the existence of a virtual school on the equator with experimental data 0 (shade of a one-meter stick measured at a certain time). This way you can also have an accurate outcome by conducting the experiment by yourself.

Stay tuned in specially designer Eratosthenes Community, where you can also find lesson plan of the experiment based on the Inquiry Based Model. There, you'll find your country's community and the lesson plans for primary school and high school in your languages!

Students get to reproduce the measurement of the circumference of the Earth, one of the most important scientific measurements ever performed, using the simplest apparatus! The Greek mathematician, Eratosthenes (276 BC-194 BC) used this same experiment to enable him to prove the sphericity of the Earth and to measure its circumference.

The students' knowledge on the subject will be assessed by the means of an online questionnaire which can be found here. The questionnaire, available in many languages, should be answered before the lesson begins (pre-questionnaire) and after the lesson's end (post questionnaire) so as to monitor the knowledge obtained by the students.
