Colm O Coilleain

International Centre for Innovation and Workplace Learning (ICIWL) at Dublin City University (DCU)

Colm O Coilleain is a Science teacher in a post-primary school in County Dublin. A native Irish speaker and a part-time PhD student at the International Centre for Innovation and Workplace Learning (ICIWL) at Dublin City University (DCU), Colm's research is focused on the European Inspiring Science Education (ISE) project. In July 2015, Colm was awarded a PhD Scholarship from An Chomhairle um Oideachas Gaeltachta & Gaelscolaochta (COGG) under the supervision of Dr. Yvonne Crotty, School of Education Studies, DCU. COGG caters for the educational needs of Gaeltacht schools and of Gaelscoileanna.

Colm promotes the use of Inquiry Based learning (IBL) to Irish speaking students in Ireland. Colm is supporting other Irish speaking teachers through webinars and face-to-face workshops to produce IBL resources in the native language. To date ISE scenarios have been successfully implemented in 9 Irish speaking post-primary schools.
